This week’s Fiest de Azucar block is from designer Tammy Silvers of Tamarinis. Tammy has been a quilter for more than 25 years. She is also a quilting teacher, and pattern designer. Her quilts have appeared in such magazines as Quilt, McCall’s Quilting, American Patchwork and Quilting, Stitch, Fons and Porter’s Love of Quilting, Quilty, Quilt It…Today, Sew It…Today, Stitch and Create and Decorate. Batiks are Tammy’s favorite fabrics, the foundation of Fiesta de Azucar blocks our fabulous designers have created for this blog hop. Tammy has a current Batik fabric line with Island Batik called “Batiks go Retro” and two more lines premiering this fall, and next spring.
Tammy’s sugar skull pattern features butterfly eyes that draw you right in. The butterflies are in memory of Tammy’s mother, who passed away when Tammy was a girl. Did you notice the dragonfly on the skull’s forehead? I love the way Tammy has brought out the detail of her applique on this skull by outlining the pieces with contrasting thread. This beautiful sugar skull pattern is flying high!
